Search & Rescue
Posted on April 4, 2010Mom signed me up to be tested for the Dog Search & Rescue Team. I jumped in the truck with her and we drove for an hour to the Jemez Mountains. There we met the Search & Rescue Team. I just wanted to play with the other dogs, so I didn’t listen so well. Someone took me off a ways and I went to my mom when she called me. Then someone held me and my mom went off and hid behind I tree. Mom called to me and the person holding me let go of me. I started running to mom, but then I saw a bunny rabbit! I ran after the bunny rabbit all through the brush and trees. Everyone was calling to me but I was having too much fun to go back. Eventually, I tired of the bunny and went back to mom. The S&R people frowned. Mom told them that I had never been out without a leash before. The people put a 100 foot leash on me for the remaining tests. I was good after that.
Mom had to take a test, too. And then we came back home. I was tired out.
Mom got an email saying that we had passed and could be on the team! Now I could go to work. First though, mom had to go to an S&R meeting without me. She came back looking dejected. She told me that the group did not work well together and had awful group dynamics. I did not understand what that meant. She said that she didn’t want me in that environment and that I would be tested for Pet Therapy instead.
